Manage Protopage TABS!

Using Protopage v3 has been very confusing for some people. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if they got a little frustrated about it. Thankfully Protopage mentioned in their blogs highlighting the changes. Here is a few tips to help.
  • COLOR choices is VERY important when managing TABS in Protopage. Think of having 3 or 4 desks all with a different purpose and you need to run to a certain desk with out getting confused. In fact make sure you have set up your favorite colors first for all types of categories(private, restricted and public). It helps to have a "Restricted" and "Public" category made as well, just so you know your color scheme. You may one day use them, otherwise name them "Unused"
  • Here is my Protopage Example. You will see that I have unique colors for my NEWS to show I have repeated TAB names. NOTE: Make sure your widgets are still in the color of your category as the color reminds you why you using that TAB.
  • When you make a TAB copy, changes you do in ONE tab, will change them all :D
  • An example of what your MAIN DESKTOP should contain would be instant things that you need to know.
  • You can use "TODOs" for reminders on different months, just add the widget and rename it to "JUN REMINDERS", then add your dates and reminders.
  • Be creative with your widgets and TABS, bookmarks does not have to mean just links to your favorite pages. They could be links to common tools at your WORK!
  • Have categories for work and studying, and if you need to share your research with someone, just use your "restricted categories" to share them. When done with your research, copy the tab into one of the restricted areas and then set up the password.
  • Duplicate your widgets and tabs when moving a widget to share. This is so you feel safer rather than loosing a lot of widgets and tabs from sharing trouble. NOTE: Protopage has removed this feature on an off on some widgets. Carefully hover over the Widget Title and you should see icons.
  • Don't go over board in sharing widgets and tabs. Be careful who you share your tabs and widgets with. the idea of sharing too many desktops sounds horrific.
  • Use "Podcast RSS feeds" as there is a BUILT in player in protopage, you can listen whilst you still browsing your tabs in protopage. While you at it make a notes widget to make your notes on that podcast.
  • Make a restricted category to share with your family and friends so they can keep in touch with your day to day stuff. Like a preview of your blog, links to your photos on Flickr. Your friends can stay in touch with you by placing comments. (Worth while).
